Job Summary of Cleaning Technician:
This job is an entry-level position that encompasses a variety of cleaning tasks, ranging from light to heavy duties, performed either independently in specified areas or as part of a team. With overall direction, the employee undertakes responsibilities throughout their shift to ensure the cleanliness of designated spaces and carry out additional tasks when necessary.
Upon assessment by the supervisor and approval by the relevant administrator, the employee has the option to transition to the role of Cleaning Technician upon completion of two years in their current position.
The Cleaning Technician series reaches its second level, presenting a selection of cleaning duties that range in complexity, completed either independently in designated sections or collaboratively as part of a team effort. The employee carries out tasks with oversight, working diligently during the designated shift to preserve the cleanliness of specific areas and undertaking additional responsibilities as needed.
Responsibilities of Cleaning Technician:
- Deploys safety apparatus, materials, and methodologies to fulfill job obligations as mandated; alerts the suitable administrator about identified fire, cleanliness, and safety dangers and maintenance prerequisites.
- Takes swift action to resolve pressing safety and operational concerns like facility damage, alarms, and graffiti to ensure the timely restoration of safety and functionality within the educational environment; provides activity reports upon the administrator's request.
- Follows the rules and regulations stipulated by various authorities while organizing and storing equipment and supplies, while also upholding safety standards and implementing protocols for maintenance and reporting on the condition of the equipment.
- Responsible for directing visitors and ensuring the security of district property in line with state and federal safety and health statutes.
- Participates in training sessions and information workshops provided by the District or College to infuse newly acquired knowledge and technologies into existing job functions.
- It is important for individuals to be equipped with a communication device if it is assigned to them and be prepared to carry out general custodial obligations.
- Engages with a computer to obtain and store relevant information for work-related assignments.
- Shows adeptness in expressing ideas through oral, written, and electronic means.
- Works with a range of machinery such as District cars, electric carts, power hoists, cardboard compactors, forklifts, etc.; may entail utilizing ladders.
- Conveys different goods (like tools, supplies, and materials) to guarantee that necessary items are accessible at the worksite.
- Undertakes supplementary duties as instructed.
- Responsibilities encompass a range of duties including sweeping, scrubbing, and mopping floors, as well as waxing, stripping, and applying finishes to various surfaces.
- Performs cleaning and disinfection duties in washrooms and showers; polishes furniture and removes dust; keeps offices and lobbies clean; washes windows, walls, and window treatments; dusts walls, ceilings, vents, and lighting fixtures.
- Wipes clean writing surfaces such as chalkboards and whiteboards used in classrooms and offices.
- Clears waste receptacles and categorizes recyclable items into specified compartments.
- Uses scrubbers, buffers, waxing machines, vacuums, and similar equipment in performing duties.
- Restocks cleaning and janitorial supplies, organizes cleaning tools and materials, and assists in maintaining inventory levels of cleaning supplies by monitoring quantities and informing supervisors as needed.
- Closes the lights and double-checks the door locks.
- Moves and rearranges chairs, tables, desks, and other furniture and equipment for special events and facility set-ups, according to specifications.
- Involves responsibilities that necessitate working in indoor as well as outdoor surroundings, with frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tasks.
- Checks campus infrastructure to make sure it is safe for operation, in a clean and attractive state, and to spot any required repairs due to damages caused by vandalism, equipment faults, or harsh weather.

Qualification of Cleaning Technician:
- Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
- Any combination equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and experience in custodial or janitorial work.
- License or Certification
- Possession of a valid class C California driver's license.
